1. Introduction

The cold heading machine is a high-speed automated cold header: the feedstock (coiled wire) is precisely sheared to length and then moved through the progressive tool and die cavities; fixed in the carbide die, the working metal is hit by the header punch to form the desired shape at room temperature. All operations are performed in a continuous process at room temperature. For this reason, this head forging process is also known as cold heading manufacturing.
